Lash client: I’m pregnant, can I have my lashes done?

So many lash artists and clients ask themselves this question.

Can a woman get lash extensions while pregnant? 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s no wonder that even pregnant women love getting eyelash extensions. But before you as a lash artist decide to offer them a service you should consider the following:

☑️ Your pregnant client shouldn’t lay down on her back after 20 weeks of her pregnancy. When she lies belly-up, the weight of her uterus can compress a major blood vessel, called the vena cava. This disrupts blood flow to her baby and can leave your client nauseated, dizzy, and short of breath.

📝 Your client may have to lay down on her side with her head straight. If she lay down on her back – have a knee pillow ready to make her lash experience more comfortable and safer. Add smaller breaks throughout the lash application or lash one eye only, then the other, and add a few minutes break in between to give your client an option to sit up and stretch.

☑️ During pregnancy, the unborn baby puts pressure on the pelvic floor muscles, bladder, and urethra. The extra pressure can make your client feel the urge to urinate more often.

📝 Make sure you have extra time for this lash application so that your client can get to the toilet when she feels the urge.

☑️ Those pregnancy hormones wreak havoc on the client’s body. For her estrogen levels are six times higher than before pregnancy. Prolactin is 10 times higher etc. So there is a high risk of lash retention issues. In my experience, I have noticed there have been times my clients have had to come in every 1.5 weeks for refills instead of every 3 weeks due to premature shedding.

📝 Educate your client on this = her extensions may require more maintenance than usual and possibly more frequent appointments.
